WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards to keep pushing

Coach Boos says team has not folded despite struggles

At 2-6 in the Mid-American Conference the Ball State University women's volleyball team is at the midpoint of their MAC season.

The Cardinals thought they had turned their season around with back-to-back victories against the University of Toledo and the University at Buffalo. However, following those two wins the team has dropped four straight places, putting them in fifth in the MAC West with eight MAC games to go.

"We had some winnable matches, we were in some games that I thought we could pull out some victories but we were just unable to do it," coach Dave Boos said. "We can see that we're close but we've got to start winning some matches."

The Cardinals will have two opportunities to get back on the winning track this weekend in Worthen Arena.

First up is Miami University, followed by Bowling Green State University. Miami, 7-1, and Bowling Green, 6-2, have two of the best records in the MAC.

In order for the Cardinals to play well and have a chance this weekend, outside attacker Julie Breivogel said the offense has to come together.

"I think once we get the offense clicking it will all come together at once," Breivogel said. "It's coming, we've just got to all get there together ... We've been working really hard these last couple weeks with new ideas and different techniques to make our game better."

Boos said in order to get the offense back to where it was when they picked up their two victories they have to start getting better hits on kill attempts.

"I thought we should have done a much better job hitting the ball [last week]," Boos said. "I'm hoping to see improvement there this weekend and get back to where we were a week and a half ago."

At 2-6, and five games out of first place with eight matches remaining, some teams could choose to pack their bags and start playing for next season. However, Boos said you won't see that of his team.

"We haven't folded yet," Boos said. "Every match we have played we have kept pushing, but we have to start winning some matches. At some point in time we have to get over the hump."
