WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Sophomore leaves team during season

The Monday after the Nike Active Ankle Challenge in August, sophomore for the Ball State University women's volleyball team Madison Monk decided she no longer wanted to play volleyball. Instead she has decided to be just a student.

"She's done playing volleyball," coach Dave Boos said. "She's staying at Ball State just being a full-time student. She's really focusing on her academics."

In her only season with Ball State, Monk played in 18 matches, including one start.

Boos said Monk no longer had her heart in the sport.

"Madison just decided that volleyball wasn't the biggest part of her anymore," Boos said. "She loved the team but it was just something her heart wasn't into anymore. For what we are asking of these athletes at this level its difficult to succeed. I think Madison made a mature decision to move on."
