The Warehouse plans to offer its patrons more entertainment including TVs for tonight's Indianapolis Colts game, Manager Ezekiel DeBacker said.
The Village's new Warehouse bar opened Aug. 24 in The Bird's former location.
DeBacker said he plans to add a kitchen, more pool tables, a mini-arcade, and a pinball machine.
The Warehouse already features a large dance floor, drink specials, new staff, good music, pool tables and a smoke-free environment, DeBacker said.
"Our biggest strength will be our staff," DeBacker said. "You take care of your people, they take care of the customers, and the customers are happy."
DeBacker said he also ordered dance lights and is looking for a sign for the window. The bar will offer customers' old favorites, such as karaoke and penny pitchers.
The Warehouse gets its name from its clean concrete floors and large, open atmosphere, DeBacker said.
DeBacker said he has very high standards for his bar, and he hopes everyone will see his bar at least once.
"I want this to be a Ball State bar," he said.
DeBacker said he will take suggestions from patrons. He plans to have a suggestion box in the bar soon, he said.
Allison Tourville, a graduate student with a major in history, said she is already happy with the bar's service.
"The second we walked in it was a welcome atmosphere," she said.
Tourville visited the bar with her friend Beth Nicholson. Tourville and Nicholson said, when they entered the bar, the bartender came out from behind the bar to greet them. The bartender remembered their names the next time they were there, they said.
The Warehouse may be the bar that revitalizes local business, Tourville said.
"The Warehouse is a nice breath of fresh air to the Village," she said.
Nicholson said everyone should try it.
"The atmosphere is so welcoming," she said. "It's a new bar and a new place to try."
Sophomore business major Greg Konieczny is already a regular at the bar.
"This is a neighborhood bar," he said. "It's like Cheers, a bar where 'everybody knows your name.'"
Konieczny said the bar's greatest strength is its space and the competitively-priced drink specials.
"They're on a college kid's budget," said Konieczny.
