PRSSA assists Bob Evans

Student organization supports restaurant's breakfast giveaway

Bob Evans will celebrate the opening of a restaurant today, and the Ball State University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America assisted the restaurant in promoting the event.

PRSSA President Kimberley Jackson said the group does not usually have clients such as Bob Evans, but they were happy to get the experience when the corporation contacted them to garner attention on campus for the event.

Donna Downham, the general manager of the Bob Evans, said the restaurant will give away plastic eggs containing prizes to customers who line up in front of the building. She said people are expected to line up beginning at 4 a.m.

The corporation has rise-and-shine giveaways at several locations around the country, Downham said.

Downham said the restaurant planned to give away more than $18,000 in prizes today, including free breakfast for a year to one customer.

Jackson said PRSSA relished the opportunity to assist a large corporation with a national profile.

"This is a new thing for us," she said. "It's a good way to get national attention."

Jackson said the organization used different methods to spread the message around campus about the opening.

"We did a lot of word-of-mouth advertising," she said, "We gave out flyers and T-shirts and just tried to let everyone know."

Jackson said Muncie Mayor Dan Canan, Bob Evans CEO Steve Davis and Charlie Cardinal are all expected to attend the event. She said the radio station WLBC 104.1 will also broadcast live from the restaurant.

Other rise-and-shine openings have had good success, Jackson said. Customers line up two or three hours early to get the prizes.

"One guy travels all over the state, I think he's already been to like three of them," she said.
