MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals in fifth after 36 holes

The Ball State University men's golf team teed off their fall season Monday at the Piper Intercollegiate in Bowling Green, Ohio. After 36 holes, Ball State is in fifth place out of 15 teams.

Junior Andrew Rhodes leads the Cardinals with a score of 68 from the second round. As a team the Cardinals shot a 294 in the morning and a 288 in the afternoon.

"We did a good job in the afternoon," coach Mike Fleck said. "I am pleased that we got things going in the right direction. It's a fairly easy golf course, so in order for us to compete we need to have more under-par rounds. Hopefully with a good score in the last round we can sneak up into the top three."

Even though Ball State is 21 strokes off the lead, coach Fleck is hoping for a top-three finish. The 54-hole tournament will conclude this afternoon.
