Facebook to offer job search capabilities

CareerBuilder.com will provide online job listings to students

Ball State University students who use Facebook can relax a little about making their job applications available to potential employers.

CareerBuilder.com is now offering a way to find a job or internship by simply having a Facebook profile.

CareerBuilder.com, an online job Web site, announced that it is now offering an application on the Facebook Platform that allows users to receive job and internship listings.

Collegiate Marketing Manager Nathan Lippe said Facebook users can add the CareerBuilder application and they will receive job and internship listings daily.

The listings are sent to users based on information received from profiles such as major in school and location, he said.

"It will make things a lot easier [for users]," he said. "We are helping them get the search going and then all they have to do is apply."

CareerBuilder will not know if a user pursues a job listing, Lippe said. After the listing is sent to the profile, the user decides what to do with it, he said.

They can ignore the listing, apply for the position or share the listing with other Facebook friends, Lippe said.

The listings are updated daily so there is no rush or time crunch when it comes to using the CareerBuilder application, he said.

"A lot of kids get bugged by their parents to find a job so this is a great way to just be able to say 'I'm looking everyday at my Facebook for one,'" Lippe said. "It's always available."

Freshman journalism major Krista Nix said she will use the application when it comes time for her to find a job.

"I would definitely add the CareerBuilder [application] on Facebook," Nix said. "It's a lot easier for them to tell us what's out there instead of a college student going out and trying to find something."

Freshman telecommunications major Tarah Miller said students who do not know how to find a job or internship could benefit from the program.

"A lot of people may not know how to go about getting a job or internship, so this new application is going to be really valuable," Miller said. "So many people have Facebook too, so it will be easily available."
