Kevin Burke, director of university communications said security concerns have kept details of Letterman's visit largely unavailable to the media.
"At the same time," Burke said, "we anticipate that it'll be a fairly low-key security approach. People will be respectful."
Stephanie Arrington, special assistant in the president's office, said Friday's ceremony has required more planning and preparation than any event she has worked on at Ball State.
"I'm always involved in major events on campus, but nothing to this level," she said.
University communications has given out more than 70 press credentials, many of which have gone to Ball State student media. Events in the building, such as the question-and-answer session, are only open to student media.
