Ball State University students got down and dirty at the annual Mud Volleyball Tournament sponsored by Botsford/Swinford halls Saturday and Sunday.
So did the custodians.
"This event does take a little extra cleaning," said Botsford/Swinford custodian Veda Slaven. "We have to work throughout the day to keep the entryways and showers clean; that's usually where the mess is."
This year marked the 20th Mud Volleyball Tournament for the complex, said committee member Alex Jung.
"Mud Volleyball is one of the highlights of the year," said sophomore Lindsay Schultz.
While students enjoy playing dirty during the competition, they do appreciate the hard work that is put in by the custodial staff.
Sophomore Kaci Lamb said she remembered the showers following 2006's tournament as being an "absolute mess."
"I would hate having to clean it up," she said. "I feel bad for them."
Although throughout the years, the job of cleaning the post-volleyball mess has gotten a little easier, Slaven said. Showers being placed outside has helped stem the amount of cleaning required after the tournament.
"We don't mind the extra cleaning too much," she said. "Besides, most of the students take care of themselves."
