Ball State University students can watch Will Ferrel and John Heder skate across the screen in high definition today.
Holly Arnett, program director for University Programs Board, said this is the first time UPB will screen "Blades of Glory" in high definition at Friday Night Filmworks in Pruis Hall. Showing high-defintion films could become common, she said.
Ball State is on a waiting list to receive the rights from Swank Media to screen movies in high definition every Friday, she said.
Swank Media granted UPB the rights to screen "Blades of Glory" on Friday as part of a special preview, she said. UPB's budget currently pays $550 per movie for the right to screen standard films, she said.
Matt Marshall, associate director for Student Center programs, said the event is 9:30 p.m. every Friday in Pruis Hall. Student admission is free with a student ID and guest admission is $1, Marshall said.
Arnett said the doors open at 9 p.m. and seating is first come first served. Popcorn and soda will be provided at an additional cost of $1 each, she said.
Friday Night Filmworks usually features films that are four to five months old, which means most of them are not in video stores, Arnett said.
UPB plans to feature pre-movie entertainment in the future, Arnett said. Performers, comedy troops and games will open the event at about 8:30 p.m., she said.
"Blades of Glory" is a story of two rival Olympic ice skaters banned from the men's single competition. They discover a loophole that allows them to compete as a pairs team.
