Men's tennis coach Bill Richards said Tuesday junior Joe Vallee will most likely miss the Cardinals' entire fall season because of a broken bone in his foot.
Richards said Vallee hurt the foot playing tennis during the summer but initially thought it was a sprained ankle before going to the doctor.
"It's just one of those weird things that happens," Richards said. "You just don't think about this type of stuff until it happens."
In the 2006 fall season, Vallee was 5-5 in single's play and 4-6 in doubles. In addition, he advanced to the quarterfinals in double's play at the Louisville Invitational last season.
The Cardinals play six fall tournaments and open the year hosting the Ball State Invitational Sept. 14.
Richards said Vallee's injury won't greatly affect the team because the fall season is all individual play and not team play, like the spring season.
"We will be very competitive," Richards said. "That is the nice thing for those [fall] tournaments, you get to play everyone on the team."
