BASEBALL: DeGeeter selected to Academic All-MAC

With a 3.77 GPA, senior starting pitcher Ryan DeGeeter was one of 19 players selected for the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for 2007. DeGeeter is the only Cardinal selected for this year's squad and is a exercise science major who was twice the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week in the 2006-07 season. It is the second straight year DeGeeter has earned Academic All-MAC honors.

On the field, he had a 5-6 record with a 5.65 ERA in 78 innings during his senior campaign.

Following a first and fourth place finish in the MAC West division, Eastern Michigan University and University of Toledo tied for the most players represented on the 2007 academic squad with five each. Central Michigan University followed with four players. Northern Illinois University, Kent State University, Miami University, and Western Michigan University each had one player receive the honor completing the team of 19.

For athletes to qualify, they must compete in at least 50 percent of their team's games and have a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher. In addition, there is a set number of players who can be selected for the honor, even if more players have a GPA higher than a 3.20. Freshman and junior college transfers in their first year are not eligible for the award.
