Former Ball State University alumnus Don Yaeger will release his 14th book, "It's Not About the Truth," to the public Tuesday.
The book tells the story of the Duke Lacrosse scandal that took place in April 2006 from the perspective of former coach Mike Pressler. Three Caucasian players were accused of raping an African-American woman, igniting a war of race and gender in Durham, NC. Pressler was forced to resign after 16 years with the program.
According to Yaeger's Web site, Pressler gave his players a promise when he addressed his team for the last time on April 5, 2006.
"One day, gentlemen, we will get the chance to tell our story," Pressler is quoted saying on Yaeger's Web site.
"It's Not About the Truth" is the fulfillment of that promise. Movie rights to the book have been sold, according to Yaeger's Web site.
Yaeger graduated from Ball State in 1984 with a double major in journalism and history. His first job was as a newspaper reporter for the San Antonio Light. Yaeger has also worked for the Dallas Morning News and the Florida Times-Union, according to his Web site.
Following his newspaper career, Yaeger was a writer with Sports Illustrated before being promoted to Associate Editor in 1998.
Yaeger has been nominated for numerous awards throughout his 20-year career. Twice, he has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award and his is also a three-time finalist for the Best American Sportswriting. Three of his 14 books have become New York Times Best-sellers.
Yaeger has interviewed some of the greatest athletes in sports history, including Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Mia Hamm, Jimmy Conners and Serena Williams among others. Yaeger lived with NFL Hall of Famer Walter for a year and wrote an autobiography as the former Chicago Bear fought his liver disease that eventually took his life.
