The Ball State University women's tennis team will play the University at Buffalo in its opening match of the Mid-American Conference Tournament today at 2 p.m. in Toledo, Ohio.
In their regular season match-up, the Bulls defeated the Cardinals 6-1 in Ball State's conference opener. The only player to win her singles match was freshman Christine Stromberg at the No. 4 spot. She split the first two sets with Natalie Dean - 4-6 and 6-3 - but won the third-set super-tiebreaker 12-10.
No other singles match went three sets. At No. 5 singles, Emma Retter took the second set to a tiebreaker but lost it to Smaranda Stan 7-5.
However, Retter and Katherine Rist teamed up at No. 3 doubles to defeat Stan and Tina Jacob 7-6.
None of Buffalo's singles players have a losing record. Only one Ball State player, Stromberg, has that distinction. Retter and No. 1 singles player Sophie Quist are both 10-10 on the season.
