PowderPuff goes on despite cold

Despite temperatures barely peaking at 40 degrees, winds up to 25 miles per hour and a misty rain, more than 60 women spent the morning slipping and sliding in the cold mud during Alpha Chi Omega sorority's annual PowderPuff game.

The sorority teamed up with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and raised more than $3,500 for A Better Way and Big Brothers, Big Sisters, PowderPuff chairwoman Madi Hike said.

Phi Mu sorority won the tournament, she said, and Phi Gamma Delta fraternity won the cheerleading contest. A total of eight teams played, and about 30 spectators came to cheer on the players, Hike said.

Jaime Koerner, Alpha Chi Omega president, said the tournament was almost canceled because of the rain and cold, but teams played on despite the weather.
