Student groups to aid Late Nite staff

Multicultural groups at Ball State University are working together to put on Late Nite this Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Groups including the Asian American Student Association, the Black Student Association, the Latino Student Union and Spectrum will each run a certain program, Assistant Director of Student Life Tiffany Washington said.

The Latino Student Union will be in charge of salsa dancing, the Black Student Association will be in charge of bingo, the Asian American Student Association will be sponsoring Asian games and Spectrum will be working with arts and crafts.

Other events for the night include tasting world coffees and Italian sodas, playing Guitar Hero and singing karaoke, according to the Late Nite Web site.

Travis Schilla, chair of the Student Government Association's Diversity and Multicultural Committee, said the idea for a Multicultural Late Nite came from SGA.

Though SGA has been working on the idea for two years, this is the first year the plan went into action, Schilla said.

Late Nite is free with a Ball State student ID and $5 for guests.
