The Ball State University men's volleyball team will begin its regular season today. Currently, the Cardinals are co-ranked No. 14 in the country with the University of the Pacific, according to the CSTU/AVCA Division I-II Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll.
Today is the first of three home games this week. No. 8 Penn State University and St. Francis University will also play the Cardinals this weekend with all three games starting at 7:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals enter the regular season after finishing the preseason with a 6-5 record. Ball State has not played a game since Dec. 2, when it lost to the BSU Alumni team in four sets.
Ball State returns eight letter-winners from last year's team. Mark Rumschik, Nick Meyer, and Doug Willmann are three seniors that the team will be looking toward for leadership.
Last season Meyer finished 7th overall in the nation with 5.44 points per game, 9th overall with 4.55 kills per game and 10th overall with a .370 aces per game ranking. He was a First Team All-MIVA selection last season and enters the season 40 kills shy of 1,000 for his career.
During the 2006 season, the Cardinals set a school record, winning its first 11 games and finishing with a 21-7 record.
