Former football player released on bond

A former freshman Ball State University football player who spent almost three months in jail was released Jan. 3, Delaware County Jail officials said.

Brandon Houston was released on $20,000 bond. Houston and Eulas Taylor III, another former football player, were arrested Oct. 13 on suspicion of burglary.

Taylor was released Oct. 30 after paying his bond.

The university announced in December that the men are no longer students, but officials wouldn't say if the men withdrew or were expelled.

Houston and Taylor are suspected of stealing laptop computers from Woody and Shales residence halls, according to police reports.

They were charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of receiving stolen property. According to the Indiana State Code, the maximum sentence each could receive if convicted of all charges is 46 years in prison.

Houston's pre-trial conference will be 9 a.m. Jan. 25 and Taylor's will be 9 a.m. Feb. 5, circuit court officials said in an earlier interview. Houston's trial by jury will begin 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26, and Taylor's will begin 8:30 a.m. March 5
