Students who wish to purchase the morning-after pill without a prescription can do so at the Amelia T. Wood Health Center at Ball State University.
Plan B, taken after sex to prevent pregnancy, has been available for three weeks, medical director Kent Bullis said.
To purchase the pill, students must present ID proving they attend Ball State and are at least 18 years old. It costs $38 over the counter. Women who go through the counseling process at the Women's Center get a prescription and purchase the pill for $25.
The counseling process is designed to give women who frequently purchase the morning-after pill vital information about birth control, as Plan B should not be used as a primary method of preventing pregnancy, Bullis said.
The Health Center might lose money by offering the pill at a lower price to women who go through counseling, but it is worth it to ensure women get proper counseling, Bullis said.
