Investigation ends Delta Tau Delta suspension

Ball State University's Delta Tau Delta fraternity is no longer suspended for an attack that occurred outside its house in early November.

The fraternity was suspended while the Office of Student Life conducted an investigation looking into Delta Tau Delta's involvement. The investigation ended Wednesday.

During suspension the fraternity could have chapter meetings but no extracurricular activities, said Cara Luyster, assistant director of student life.

Sophomore Zach Holsinger said he was attacked Nov. 11 outside the Delta Tau Delta house. After being at the house for five minutes, he said about 10 men asked him to leave and pushed him from behind as he left.

"[After I got pushed] I tried to get up but got hit in the back of the head," he said. "I was told after the incident the doctors pulled fragments of wood splinters out of my head."

Luyster said her investigation showed some facts were different from what was reported.

"I talked with undergraduates from the chapter and the national headquarters, and we determined no wood object was involved," she said.

Evan Hardin, external vice president of Delta Tau Delta, said he could not comment on the situation, and multiple calls to President Bob Rutherford were not returned.
