The final round of the University of Cincinnati Women's Fall Classic was cancelled yesterday due to overnight rain and continuous showers. As a result, the scores from Monday's first round are final, leaving Ball State University tied for fifth place.
"Our team was sincerely disappointed they couldn't play," coach Katherine Mowat said. "It was unfortunate, because I think we were in the right frame of mind."
Host team Cincinnati Bearcats finished first with a combined team score of 303, beating Western Carolina by two strokes. Southern Mississippi came in third, followed by Bowling Green State and Eastern Kentucky. Ohio University tied the Cardinals for fifth.
"I told the team 'It's not one round, or one tournament, it's the entire season we build on,'" Mowat said. "We definitely knew we could have jumped into third place with an average round. It hurts because we were only five strokes behind third. You just never know what's going to happen. But we didn't have the opportunity to make up for it."
With the fall season now completed, the Cardinals will begin conditioning for the spring.
