Shooting a 314 in the final round at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. the Ball State University women's golf team finished in 14th place overall with a combined team score of 938 strokes.
Despite a mediocre finish, coach Katherine Mowat was proud of her team's effort.
"We had a lot of good holes in the third round," Mowat said. "There was some frustration during Monday's performance, but we had key players who shot well."
Though struggling with her putts, Senior Kallie Harrison managed to shoot 76 in the final round to tie for 39th overall to lead the Cardinals.
"She hit a lot of holes under par," Mowat said. "Her putts looked good, but they just didn't go in."
Coming off a career-low score of 72, Sarah Windlan shot an 82 in the third round to finish tied for 61st overall.
"Monday was a very consistent day for me," Windlan said. "The final round was a struggle for me though. I had some high numbers and I couldn't pinpoint one thing except the mental game. I was playing hole by hole whereas Monday I was in the zone."
Focusing on consistency, Windlan believes the team is headed in the right direction.
"We've had a lot of practices where we've worked on what we need to focus on, such as our short game," Windlan said. "We have gained experience from tournament play and I think everyone's mindset is where it needs to be. We all want to play; we just need to go out and do it."
Wishing to break 300 strokes for one round of play by their next tournament, Windlan is determined to stay focused and make whatever adjustments are necessary.
"There is room for improvement with everyone," Windlan said. "There is something everyone can focus on until the spring. I always remember the last game of the Fall, so hopefully next week we can show that we have worked hard."
With one more tournament left in the Fall season schedule, coach Mowat has no desire to alter her team's practices.
"Honestly, I'm really happy the way we have been preparing," she said. "We have good quality and meaningful practices. I wouldn't change that. We just need to work on some individual needs and help the players who haven't been as consistent. We are aware of how strong the [Mid-American Conference] is but I don't think any of them have more talent than us."
