Fuel prices decrease to $1.99 in Muncie

Locally, drivers pay 31 cents less than national average

Some Ball State University students plan on getting out and about and driving more now that national gas prices are at their lowest point in nearly eight months.

People are filling up their tanks for as little as $1.99 a gallon around Muncie. According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report, the national average for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.30 a gallon, which means that customers are paying 31 cents less than the national average. A year ago, gas prices averaged more than $2.90 a gallon.

Stephanie Meyer, a senior at BSU, said she plans on taking some weekend trips with her friends now that gas prices are decreasing. Meyer said she planned on going to Ohio and other surrounding states, and they plan to car pool to save even more money.

"If we are all going to the same place, we might as well take the fewest amount of vehicles as possible, because we can save even more money with everyone in the car chipping in for gas," she said.

Prices at the pump have continued to fall because the price of crude oil, which affects the price of gasoline, has also been dropping.
