Flu shots available on campus

Health Center offers students vaccines for $29 until Friday

The Amelia T. Wood Health Center is giving flu vaccines to students for $29 a shot Wednesday through Friday. The Health Center sent all students a campus-wide e-mail Tuesday outlining information about the shots.

Vaccines will be given in the lobby. Students do not need to make appointments. Those who cannot come during the scheduled times can register for a vaccine during normal clinic business hours, Lisa Kennedy, office administrator, said. She recommended students do not wait to get the vaccines.

"We expect wait times to be very short. We are again using quick clinics, so the wait would be about 15 minutes upon arrival," she said.

This year, the cost for the vaccine is $29. It can be paid for with cash, check, credit/debit card or bursar account.

During the past two years, getting enough vaccines has been a problem for the Health Center, but Kennedy said she does not anticipate a shortage this year.

"Last year we had about 450 students choose to get the flu shot, this year we have a supply of 600," Kent Bullis, Health Center director, said.

The Health Center is on Neely Avenue, across from the Studebaker West Complex.

Students should follow the signs labeled "Flu Shots" to the information table where they will read and fill out consent forms for the vaccination and pay for the shot, Kennedy said. A nurse will administer the flu shot at another table.

The Health Center recommends students wear clothing that allows access to their upper arm.
