Daily News copies stolen from distribution stands

Formal report filed with University Police

Thousands of Ball State Daily News copies are missing from distribution racks across campus today, with no leads as to the cause of their disappearance.

Daily News Adviser Vince Filak said he estimated between 7,000 to 10,000 copies of the newspaper were missing. An exact number is difficult to determine because of copies picked up by readers prior to the papers going missing.

DN staff began receiving phone calls around noon Wednesday, questioning the absence of newspapers in most academic buildings and residence halls.

Papers were recovered from trash cans or recycle bins in some buildings, including North Quad on Wednesday afternoon. In other locations, however, copies could not be found.

A report was filed with the University Police Department on Wednesday afternoon.

Two other college student newspapers, The Shield of University of Southern Indiana and The Statesman of Indiana State University, have had editions stolen from racks in the last week.
