SOCCER: Cardinals steal four straight wins

Ball State pulls off unlikely comeback to force overtime

Ball State University's men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson wanted a tough schedule, and that is exactly what he got.

The Cardinals released their 2006-07 basketball schedule Friday. The list of games includes some pretty daunting tasks, such as a trip to Las Vegas to play Kansas University and Western Kentucky. A neutral court date to face Oklahoma State in San Diego and the annual matchup against Indiana University in Bloomington also awaits the Cardinals.

"This is a tough, competitive schedule," Thompson said. "From day one, our team is going to be challenged with every game."

Thompson opted for the tough schedule to help improve Ball State's recruiting around the country. By traveling all the way to the west coast, Thompson hopes the programs name will remain when they leave.

"I think the schedule is relevant to us widening our recruiting base," Thompson said. "In building this program, I want to use scheduling to put our name on a national scene in different recruiting areas around the country."

The emotional climax for Thompson will be a Nov. 27 match to his alma mater Georgetown, the program his father built and brother now coaches. After making it to the Sweet 16 last year and giving eventual champ Florida University one of the toughest games of THE tournament, the Bulldogs will be another tough draw for the Cardinals.

Some important dates to mark on the calendar are the regular season and home opener against Northern Colorado on Nov. 11 and the Mid-American Conference opener against Toledo on Jan. 6.
