WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals look for freshman to contribute

Attacker leads team against Michigan State with 15 kills

Two games into the season, freshman Julie Breivogel has already led the Cardinals, scoring a team high 15 kills in the final match against Michigan State on Saturday.

"[The team is] very excited about the way I played and were very happy that I could contribute," Breivogel said. Coach Randy Litchfield took notice of Breivogel's performance, saying it will be a key in the team's success this season.

"We're not going to be able to keep [Julie] off the floor," Litchfield said. "She's so versatile and has such a high ceiling, she has so much to learn."

Over the weekend Ball State University's women's volleyball team hosted a tournament against three top 100 teams,

With Breivogel stepping up to help the Cardinals to victory against IPFW, she became one of the main scorers on the team. She has already proven that she will be a major asset to the team this season.

"Hopefully I proved to [Litchfield] that I can take whatever challenge he gives me and do my best," Breivogel said. "I want to help the team win,"

According to junior Angie Parrell, the upperclassman on the team have already welcomed Breivogel's contributions. She is not looked at as a freshman, but as a player who will help the team win games. Parrell has been very pleased with the way Breivogel has produced during games.

"She's amazing, I'm so proud of her for what she's doing," Parrell said.

Litchfield has taken note of the way Breivogel has manufactured plays during the weekend tournament. He plans on giving Breivogle ample playing time this season. Litchfield believes that Breivogel will improve even more throughout her college career.
