OUR VIEW: Get in tune

AT?ISSUE:?Students should utilize creativity, technology to make most of free service

The white ear buds of iPods could have a challenge - but only if students give Ruckus a chance.

Ruckus, the music server company Ball State University went into a two-year contract with, said its program does not work with iTunes or iPods.

While this might seem like a waste of resources, it could have potential for all students - including those who use iTunes and iPods.

Ball State prides itself on being a technology-savvy school. iPod-loving students just need to be creative to use Ruckus.

Ruckus is allowing students to listen to 1.8 million songs. In addition, students can upload any of their music to share. It's a shame to let it go to waste.

This is a free service to students, and Ball State is not paying anything for it. The amount students pay the university will not be increased because of Ruckus.

Student Government Association advertises Ruckus. Ruckus gives Ball State free music. Not a bad deal - it just won't work with everyone's mp3 player.

In addition to PC users, only Macs that have the new Intel processing chips will be able to use Ruckus.

Students need to get creative if they want to use the new service with what they already have.

Utilize new ideas and technology instead of automatically assuming there is no use for something that cannot go directly from the internet onto an iPod.

It can happen. Students just need to get in-tune with their creativity.
