Library begins work on new caf+â-¬

Vending machines to be relocated to basement

Construction on the Bookmark Caf+â-¬ will soon be underway.

Liz Poore, assistant director of operations for Dining Service, said workers were preparing to remove the contents of the vending area in Bracken Library, beginning the week of July 24.

Poore said the vending machines will be relocated to the basement of the library and new tile will be put in. The area will be repainted, and the door and draperies will be replaced.

Dixie Dewitt, financial and business services manager for Bracken Library, said she has been helping Dining Service prepare for opening the caf+â-¬.

"We've been storing a few equipment items until they can get them installed," she said.

After the initial renovation, wooden, stationary food carts will be installed around Aug. 15.

Bookmark Caf+â-¬ should open Sept. 5, Poore said, and a grand opening is planned for Oct. 4.

"We'll have an opening celebration with giveaways and free coffee," Poore said.

The caf+â-¬ will be opened Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Poore said it would feature items of ranging prices similar to those in the Atrium. Pastries and cereal will be available for breakfast, and salads and sandwiches among oter items will be available for the rest of the day, Poore said. The caf+â-¬ will feature Seattlwe's Best Coffee, a brand made by Starbucks.

Students will be able to use their meal cards at the caf+â-¬, Poore said.

The Atrium will provide food to the caf+â-¬ twice a day, for which Dining Service recently purchased a refrigerated truck, Poore said.

Dewitt said she thought library patrons would appreciate the caf+â-¬.

"I think they'll enjoy the options they have that Dining Services will put in place," she said. "We're excited about all the new options we'll have," Dewitt said. "and great coffee, I understand."
