Summer Music Releases

June 27

Dashboard Confessional - "Dusk and Summer"

The fifth album from emo poster child Chris Carrabba promises plenty of earsplitting vocals and emotional lyrics. The follow-up to 2003's "A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar" was produced by U2 collaborator and producer Daniel Lanois, who will try to bring some of U2's trademark arena-ready sound to Dashboard's more intimate sound.

July 4

Johnny Cash - "American V: A Hundred Highways"

Following his wife's death in 2003, Cash entered the studio with Rick Rubin to record the fifth album in the "American Recordings" series. Four months later he was dead. Cash's final recorded song, "Like the 309," is featured on the album, which, according to Rolling Stone, contains some of Cash's darkest music.

July 11

Thom Yorke - "The Eraser"

While Radiohead fans will have to wait until 2007 for a new album, singer Thom Yorke's first solo album might help tide them over. Recorded during breaks from the recording of Radiohead's new album, "The Eraser" finds Yorke exploring the beat-oriented electronica music Radiohead recorded on "Kid A." "Harrowdown Hill," one of the new songs on the album, features haunting vocals layered over skittering beats and looming atmospherics.

Muse - "Black Holes and Revelations"

Muse's new album's first single, "Supermassive Black Hole" marks a stark departure from the band's sound - one that hasn't been entirely well-received by critics and fans alike. The band is following its critically acclaimed 2003 album, "Absolution."

Sufjan Stevens "The Avalanche: Outakes and Extras from the Illinois Album"

Originally conceived as a double album, Sufjan Stevens' "Come On, Feel the Illinoise" topped numerous critics best of lists in 2005. Stevens will close the book on Illinois with this outtakes album, featuring the material that he sacrificed when cutting the album down to one disc.

July 18

Los Lonely Boys - "Sacred Act"

You couldn't escape Los Lonely Boys in 2004 and the challenge for the Texas trio will be proving that 2004's most surprising success story wasn't a fluke.

Method Man - "4:21...The Day After"

Method Man might have his hands full with his fourth record. Not the most critically acclaimed rapper of the East-Coast hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man's solo efforts have been criticized for being over-produced with too much pop gloss. Overshadowed by former bandmates the RZA and Ghostface Killa, Method Man will try and reclaim the Wu-Tang glory.

July 23

Tom Petty - "Highway Companion"

Despite touring with the Heartbreakers this summer, "Highway Companion" will be Petty's first solo album since 1994's Rick Rubin-produced "Wildflowers." "Highway Companion" will be released on Rubin's American Recordings imprint. Lead single "Saving Grace" is an up-tempo and sparse blues-influenced number that easily surpasses the material on Petty's "The Last DJ" album.

Boy Kill Boy - "Civilian"

Boy Kill Boy has found success on the other side of the pond where influential British publication The New Music Express has been raving about the group's first single, "Back Again." Drawing comparisons to the Smiths, Boy Kill Boy will try and find the same success in America.

August 1

TV on the Radio - "Return to Cookie Mountain"

One of 2006's most anticipated albums, TV on the Radio's sophomore album has already been heavily bootlegged, and tracks from the album have leaked. The band first gained notoriety with its shimmering shoegaze track, "Staring at the Sun." Look for vocal contributions from famous fan David Bowie on "Province."

August 22

Outkast - "Idlewild"

The long-delayed soundtrack to the film of the same name doubles as the eccentric hip-hop duo's sixth album. Idlewild is set in the 1930s and according to MTVnews.com, the album has a ragtime feel. The first single, "The Mighty O," is available for streaming on Outkast's Web site.

Also coming this summer
