SOFTBALL: Released coach lands new job at Illinois school

Former Ball State University assistant softball coach Cristina Lukas was hired last week as the head softball coach at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Lukas will serve as the department of athletic and recreation's business manager and senior woman administrator.

Lukas, along with former head coach Terri Laux, was let go by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins in late May. In her two seasons with Ball State, Lukas was responsible for the development of the pitching staff in addition to coordinating team travel, scouting and recruiting.

In the 2006 season, Ball State pitchers finished with a 13-30 record and a 3.65 ERA. Opponents also hit .285 against Cardinal pitching. Number one pitcher Amanda Pick finished with a 6-11 record and a 2.29 ERA under Lukas's guidance last season.
