SOCCER: New assistant hired onto coaching staff

Women's soccer coach Michelle Salmon has announced the addition of Abby Richter to the Ball State University program.

Richter comes to Muncie after serving two years as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, where she was the team travel coordinator and goalkeeping coach. Richter also assisted in film breakdown, recruitment of student-athletes, monitoring the program budget and academic progress.

Before her position at Iowa, Richter spent two years as an assistant coach for the U.S. Open Women's National Team. From 2003-05, Richter was the graduate assistant coach at Kent State University and also served an internship with KSU's Student Recreational Services and was the U-11 head and goalkeeping coach for the Greater Akron Premier club team. Before her stint at Kent State, she was the assistant coach at Earlham College and assistant varsity coach at Southwest High School in Green Bay, Wis.

A 2001 graduate of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Richter earned a bachelor's degree in broadfield social science and history with a teacher certification for grades five through 12. She also received a master's degree in sports and recreational management from Kent State in 2005.
