SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State swim teams finish regular season

Men win nine events, while women win four in final dual meet

With the last dual meet of the regular season over, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ready to focus their attention on the Mid-American Conference Championships.

"If we have a bad last dual meet, that usually means that we're going to have a really good championship meet," co-coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said.

The women's team suffered a 52-point loss by the final score of 176-124, and finished their year with an 8-4 dual meet record.

Overall, the women were only able to grab four first-place finishes.-á

Meghan Patterson received first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:25.54, while Stephanie Paul won the three meter diving board with 245.40 total points. She also received second on the one meter board.

Erika Paul and Megan Ploetz took firsts in the 100 and 200-butterfly events with times of 58.97 and 2:08.97, respectively.

The men's team ended the meet with a tie, 147-147, and a dual meet record of 3-4-1.

Overall, the team collected nine first-place finishes with Adam Konopka leading the way with three wins out of four events. His magic time for the meet was 1:56 and some change in the 200-yard events as he won the 200-individual medley (1:56.44), 200-backstroke (1:56.71), and the 200-butterfly (1:56.10).

Zach Whitaker, Caleb Bye, and David Linn went one, two and three on both diving boards, collecting some much needed points, according to Seibold-Caudill.

Kurtis Leer was also able to get two first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (52.52) and 100-yard freestyle events (46.56). Josh Schum placed second behind Leer in the 100 free with a time of 47.14 and was also able to get first in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:42.94.-á
