WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look for victory on road

Following a disappointing home loss to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, the women's basketball team will look to bounce back on the road.

Ball State University (9-6, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) travels to play Northern Illinois at 4 p.m. Saturday.

"Northern is a good team," sophomore forward Julie DeMuth said. "Playing on the road in the MAC is always tough. We're going to learn from [Wednesday's loss] and hopefully come out with a win."

What hurt the Cardinals' chances at winning on Wednesday was their inability to maintain a lead. Ball State trailed the Eagles by one point for most of the second half. The Cards held a one-point lead twice, but could never add to it.

"The thing we have to do better is we've got to get a lead and build on it," coach Tracy Roller said.

A silver lining in the loss was the return of Becca Bajorek. The junior center scored four points in her first game since hip surgery.

Bajorek said she was relieved to finally play after waiting all season.

"Of course there is always going to be a frustrating point," Bajorek said. "But my team was so supportive, coaches, trainers. I can't thank my trainer enough."

Northern Illinois (6-9, 2-2 MAC) is in a three-way tie with Ball State and Western Michigan for second place in the MAC West.

Guard Stephanie Raymond leads the Huskies at 17.3 points per game. Kristin Wiener (11.2 ppg) is second in scoring and leads the team in rebounding (6.7 rpg).

Roller said it's always important to win MAC games on the road.

"When you lose one at home, you got to find a way to steal one on the road," Roller said. "We're coming across another great guard in Stephanie Raymond. I'm really looking forward to that match-up."
