BSU Web site features trial Google search

Google search is now available on the Ball State University Web site, just in time for the start of Spring Semester.

The beta search can be reached via a link underneath the current search function. The beta search is the first of two phases being implemented to start the Google search and work out problems.

"All the searches aren't going to be perfect yet," Nancy Prater, Web content coordinator, said. "It won't be perfect for a while; that's part of having Google. I'm really pleased with what the beta has done already."

The new search offers corrections for misspellings and a synonym search.

"What's even more amazing is without us even telling, Google will figure out our own little spellings," she said.

An example of a search word that might be misspelled is inQsit testing, which Prater said is commonly misspelled. The Google search will recognize the error and offer the correct spelling.

A form is available on the Google beta search page for comments and questions.
