President Jo Ann Gora named Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham's temporary successor on Thursday.
Ken Brown, the associate athletics director of business affairs for Ball State University, will take over athletic director duties on Nov. 11, the day after Cunningham officially leaves the university.
Cunningham announced his resignation from Ball State on Oct. 10 to accept athletic directors position at the University of Tulsa.
Gora notified the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics about Brown's appointment Thursday afternoon. In an e-mail she sent to the staff, Gora said that Brown has served the department well since 1991, and will continue to do so in his temporary position.
"His experience as associate athletic director and director of athletic business services at BSU prepares him well for the challenges he will face over the next few months," Gora said in the statement.
Some challenges Brown will face until the position is filled permanently include continuing the football stadium's renovation, finishing the 2006 football schedule, and dealing with day-to-day budget issues.
The University has said it will use a closed search committee to choose the next athletic director, which they hope to complete by Spring 2006.
Brown and Cunningham could not be reached for comment.
