MEN'S GOLF: Team members get new taste of road invites

The guys who usually don't get a chance to play for Ball State University's men's golf team are getting their shot at playing at the IPFW Fall Classic.

Seven members of Ball State's men's golf team, those who usually don't play in road invites, competed in the first two rounds of the Classic, Monday.

Ball State finished in third place, shooting 574, six-over par. The Cardinals finished behind Oakland University (557, 11-under par) and Loyola University (559, nine-under par). Freshman Ben Lakoff tied for sixth overall and led the team shooting 140, two-under par. Matt Schumaker finished second on the team by shooting par, 142.

Chris Hanson (146), Brian Maurer and Josh Baldwin (147 each) also competed for the Cardinals and contributed to the team score.

Ball State's Kyle Cox and Austin Steele competed individually in the Classic. Cox tied Lakoff and two others for sixth place and Steele tied for 18th (144).
