Emens welcomes 'Millie'

Tony Award-winning musical one of many visiting this year

"Thoroughly Modern Millie," winner of six 2002 Tony awards, will be performed at Emens Auditorium on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, "Millie" tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a girl from the Midwest who goes to New York City in search of love and a "modern marriage." The musical comedy is set in the 1920s and directed by Tony award winner Joey McKneely.

"'Thoroughly Modern Millie' is part of the Artists Series Attractions, which includes 'Blast,' 'The Full Monty,' '42nd Street,' "Oklahoma!' and 'The Ten Tenors,'" said Bob Myers, Director of Emens Auditorium and Pruis Hall. "It's fun, light, musical theater in which you get a flavor of the Roaring '20s," Myers said.

Some of the Tonys "Millie" has won include Best New Musical, Best Actress and Best Choreography.

"Academics are very important. However a primary reason for pursuing a university education is the exposure to the many different cultural experiences," Myers said. "I think when [students] look back on their college experiences, it's these events they will remember."

Tickets are free for Ball State University students in advance, $5 at the door and $32 to $45 for non-students.
