Celebration held to promote school spirit

The annual "Paint the Town Red" celebration kicking off the 2005 Ball State University football season will be held Friday, beginning at 5 p.m.

The Ball State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has joined with Muncie Downtown Development in planning the event, which this year has been moved to the corner of Charles and Walnut streets. The first 500 fans will be given free Ball State "Pride" t-shirts.

"Paint the Town Red" will last three hours, during which fans can purchase their 2005 Ball State football season tickets for a special "buy one, get one free" price of $35. Free 2005 Ball State football posters will also be given to everyone who attends, and fans can sign a 12' x 25' billboard which will be displayed in Muncie.

Among those performing are the Code Red Dancers and the Ball State cheerleading squad, along with appearance by members of the football team and staff. Head coach Brady Hoke will be on-hand. The touring group Dave and Rae, who have performed across Indiana, will perform at 6 p.m.

The celebration will end with a free showing of "Friday Night Lights" outside.
