Defendant in Harford case pleads guilty

One of the three men involved in the early morning robbery and murder of Karl Harford on March 7, 2004 pleaded guilty on Monday to his role in the crime.

Brandon Patterson, 19, of Muncie could receive a minimum of 45 years to a maximum of 50 years for charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury.

Patterson, Damien Sanders, 20, and a juvenile robbed $2 from Harford and murdered him after he gave the three a ride home from a campus party.

Although Patterson is said to be the instigator of the crime, prosecutors will drop the murder charge as part of the plea agreement.

Because of his part in the crime, Patterson could not be sentenced for both the murder and robbery charges, prosecutors said in a statement after the plea was made.

Judge Marianne Vorhees has taken the plea under advisement but must agree to it before the terms are made official.

Vorhees has set Patterson's sentencing hearing for June 24.
