TRACK Cards finish second at home triangular

Ball State finished second in its home triangular meet Friday

The Cards team score of 101 was six behind Western Michigan. The meet was the final tuneup before the conference championships next week at Central Michigan.

The Cardinals were led by sophomore Amanda Barnhart, who won the long jump 20 feet, 1 inch. Her distance also made her an NCAA provisional qualifier. Barnhart wasn't the only Ball State team member who finished first. Senior Ashley Gillies (high jump, 5-7), junior Nicole Hartford (3,000 meter, 10:20.98) and freshman Yvonne Ferguson (200, 24.93) all won their events.

Finishing second to help out the team were juniors Jennifer McCoy (55-meter hurdles) and Crystal Winfrey (200), sophomores Terri Abraham (triple jump), Amanda Ponsot (mile) and freshman Christina Whitt (400 meter). The 4x400 relay team also took second.

The meet continued a torrid schedule in which the Cards have a meet nearly every single week until the NCAA Outdoor Championships the first week in June.
