SWIMMING & DIVING Men shine, women fall at Bobcats' meet

Both of Ball State's swimming and diving teams made the trek to Athens, Ohio to take on the Bobcats as the Mid-American Conference championship looms in the distance.

The men's team (3-2, 2-1 in the MAC) had few problems, taking care of the Bobcats 176-122. Individual winners for the Cardinals were Kurtis Leer in he 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Josh Willer in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, Ryan Bowman in the 200 butterfly, Adam Konopka in the 200 individual medley and Ryan Plantz in 1- and 3-meter diving.

Zach Hall, Willer, Bowman and Leer also teamed up to win the 400 Medley Relay.

The women (6-4, 4-3 in the MAC) had less success, falling to Ohio 171-129. Only Jenna Arnold in the 200 butterfly, Mary Brinkoetter in 200 backstroke, Tara Zimmer in the 200 breaststroke and Michelle Braden in the 400 individual medley were able to score wins for the Cardinals.

The men host Eastern Michigan on Saturday in their regular-season finale, while the women head back to Athens at the end of the month for the MAC Championships.
