LETTER: Team Us should face competition for students' sake

Dear Editor,

I am outraged to learn that Team Us is going to be allowed to simply waltz into the presidency, a role that should be earned not just handed over for a lack of competition. In fact, when the threat of a new slate reached the ears of the man who would be president, he through a fit and convinced the SGA to deny the would-be rival team the chance to plead their case, even after they compiled a list of 300 signatures of Ball State students supporting the idea of competition for the presidency. Why, if so many students want a choice of who to vote for, are we being denied that chance? Has SGA turned from a democracy into a dictatorship where students are denied the right to choose? Have we reached the age where our leaders are going to be forced upon us in a farce of an election? I say it is time we stand up and make some noise. It's time we shout out that we want the right to choose who our leaders are. I think that "team toilet paper" has another thing coming if they think we are going to sit idly by while they make a mockery of the democratic government. I for one am not. I want competition, and I do not support Team Us.

Sincerely,

Erin Walton
