FIELD HOCKEY: Cards give CMU first win at new facility

Cards fall to 4-4 in MAC with 2-1 loss to Chippewas

Having to fight the elements on a cold and rainy Saturday, theBall State field hockey team lost the main battle, falling toCentral Michigan, 2-1.

The loss drops Ball State (4-11, 4-4 Mid-American Conference)into a third place tie in the conference with CMU.

The win was the first ever for Central Michigan (7-8, 4-4 MAC)at its new facility. It was just the second game played at theChippewas new home, as Indiana won during a visit on Friday.

Neither team was able to muster any offense in the first halfdue to the inclement weather and slick new field.

The Cardinals opened the scoring early in the second half assenior forward Chantelle Isaac put home her fourth goal of theseason. The unassisted goal came just 1:36 into the half. It wasthe fourth straight time and 10th overall that Ball State hasscored the first goal of the game.

The Chippewas struck back immediately, tying the game at 1-1only 23 seconds later. Erica Takach put home the goal, her seventhon the season, on a penalty corner.

The game-winning goal came at 51:39 on a tip-in by AlisaFolk.

The closely-contested game was evident in the statistics. BSUgoalkeeper Tracy Bannister recorded eight saves in the game.Danielle Frank, goalkeeper for the Chippewas, notched seven savesin the win.

Central Michigan took 11 shots while Ball State managed 10. TheChippewas totaled 10 penalty corners to the Cards nine.

Only two home games remain for the Cardinals before the MACTournament. BSU will host Kent State on Friday and Ohio onSaturday.
