MEN'S GOLF Cardinals comprise Indiana Open elite

The Ball State men's golf team was well-represented at the Pepsi Indiana Open with two former and one current member finishing in the top five.

Former members Cary Hungate and Jamie Broce finished third and fourth, respectively, while current sophomore member Wayne Denger finished fifth.

Hungate, who competed at Ball State from 1996 to 1999, and Broce, who competed from 1975 to 1979, were tied for second going into the final round.

Lee Williamson of Crawfordsville, Ind. won his second Indiana Open with a total score of 279.

Denger's fifth place finish was the highest of any amateur in the tournament. He opened the tournament with a low round of 70, followed by 74, 76 and 72 for a total of 292.

Sophomore C.D. Hockersmith finished in 12th place with a total score of 296, which would have been fifth among amateurs. Another sophomore, Austin Steele, finished in 45th with a score of 311.

Other former members included Curt Puckett, who finished 19th; Bill Pollert, who finished 31st and Kenny Cook, who finished 55th. 222. Et?*IndianaOpenbreif7.19DNEditorial222SORT
