Trainer awarded by Indiana organization

Ball State's associate athletic trainer has been named a trainer of the year by an Indiana organization.

Tony Cox will be honored by the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association (IATA) on July 9 for his work with Ball State teams.

He is in his 21st year with the university and is currently the head trainer for the men's basketball team and men's and women's golf teams. He also serves as an assistant trainer for the football team. Previously, Cox has worked with the women's volleyball team.

Cox is also an instructor for the School of Physical Education and the father of Kyle Cox, a junior member of the men's golf team.

"Very few individuals realize all the behind-the-scenes duties he does on a daily basis to ensure a smooth flow for the athletic program," head athletic trainer Neal Hazen said in a press release. "Thanks to Tony's care and mentoring, numerous student-athletes and athletic training students have been provided with an exceptional experience at Ball State University."
