The Board of Trustees changed the name of the School of Physical Education at the Board's May 7 meeting to the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science.
H. Mitchell Whaley, chairman of the department, said the name change has been a point of discussion and debate over the years. He said the new name more accurately describes the programs in the department.
"The former title really only incorporated one out of our three major programs," Whaley said.
Whaley said his department encompasses sport and physical education as well as exercise science.
