WOMEN'S TENNIS Cardinals drop two 6-1 matches, stumble back to .500 in MAC

Coach Bull upset with team's effort in loss to Miami

After coming off a good victory last weekend against Northern Illinois, Ball State was looking to continue performing against Marshall and Miami. While the matches had almost identical outcomes, Coach Kathy

Bull had two different reactions.

"Yesterday's match, Marshall, was much better performance than (against Miami)," she said. "Our composure was much more solid, our effort was kind of in the trenches and kind of grind and battle. The outcome's not much different, but the whole the whole process from (Friday) to (Saturday was different). I mean, we were much more competitive (against , didn't play with any fear."

The Cardinals started the weekend on Friday playing against No. 46 Marshall. The Cardinals were outmatched and lost a fairly convincing 6-1 match. Only Melissa Roach, who won in a super-tiebreaker, and Susan

Kelley, who dropped two 7-5 sets, were able to compete with their opponents.

Against Miami, it was a similar story. The Cardinals were only able to score one victory in doubles, and in singles once again only senior Roach was able to win, quickly securing two 6-1 sets. Susan Kelley also

performed well before falling in three sets. The rest of the Cards were taken out in two sets.

"Today was just a pretty big disappointment, and a pretty big setback for our program," Bull said Saturday. "We came out and pretty, just afraid of everything, when we played doubles. We were beaten pretty soundly today, we just can't seem to when the pressures on our shoulders, we're not stepping up, and that's just not good enough. I'm pretty disappointed in our effort today."

Despite Bull's effort to work up the team after a poorly played doubles point, the Cardinals still fell flat and dropped their second 6-1 match of the weekend to the RedHawks.

"I gave some pretty strong words between singles and doubles," she said. "This just isn't just about coming out and trying every day, there's a lot more to it. We have responsibilities, we have to step up in those responsiblities When you have opportunities and you have ability level, you need to do something with that. This isn't just put on a uniform today and kinda play, that's not what we do here, and that's what we did today."

The Cardinals will move on and face Bowling Green next weekend to close out their season.

"We have one more chance to right the ship, so to speak," Bull said.
