Sophomore found dead in residence hall room

A Ball State sophomore was found dead in her dorm room Thursday,according to the coroner's office.

Deputy Coroner Scott Hahn said 19-year-old Jennifer Pokorny diedin her room in Woodworth Complex's Crosley Hall in theafternoon.

Hahn said an autopsy will be performed today, but he saidPokorny's death appears to be a sucide.

Randy Hyman, dean of students, said police notified him a littleafter 3 p.m., and police were on the scene when he arrived at theresidence hall.

Hyman said Pokorny's roommate initially found the body and thennotified the floor's resident assistant.

Hyman said he notified Pokorny's parents. Her mother lives inFresno, Calif., and her father is an Indianapolis resident.

"I spoke with both sets of parents," Hyman said. "I make thecontact on behalf of the university."

Thursday night, Hyman along with staff from the CounselingCenter and the Office of Housing and Residence Life met withstudents in the Woodworth Complex to help them deal with thesituation.

"The university deeply regrets Jennifer's passing," Hyman said,"and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
