Today's game against in-state rival Indiana marks the first of six games this week for the Ball State softball team.
The contest against the Hoosiers is the first at the Ball State softball complex this season. Due to last Thursday's doubleheader games against Purdue being postponed to April 16, the Cardinal's home opener is now against the Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers come to Muncie with a 22-18 record, having defeated Bowling Green twice in a doubleheader on Sunday. With the help of Karly McCormack's four hits for the day, the Hoosiers came away with 6-4 and 4-2 victories.
Indiana finished with eight hits in both games. The Hoosiers scored a run in every inning but the fourth in game one, scored two runs in both the second and sixth inning in game two.
McCormack leads the team in on-base percentage, runs scored and runs batted in. Abby Page leads the team in batting average at .400. Megan Roark improved her record to 8-6 by winning both games for the Hoosiers. She struck out 12 in the process.
Ball State comes off a weekend in which an 11-game winning streak against Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan was snapped by a score of 10-0 on Sunday. The Eagles found themselves ahead by 10 runs after five innings, and the game was called as a result. The Cardinals had defeated the Eagles twice the previous day.
Kris Burdine led the Cardinals over the weekend, finishing with four hits, including a grand slam in the second game of the weekend. For her performance, Burdine was named MAC Player of the Week in the West Division.
The Cardinals are 8-20 overall, and are tied with Central Michigan for first place in the West Division of the MAC with a 2-1 record.
