SOFTBALL BSU faces Akron after second cancellation

For the second time this season, Ball State's game with Purdue was canceled because of poor weather. The game will be rescheduled, but no date has been announced.

Ball State and Purdue's originally scheduled doubleheader games were set for April 1, but the field was in unplayable condition. Tuesday's game was scheduled as a single game and will remain such when a make-up date is determined.

The Cardinals (11-23, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) turn its attention today toward MAC rival Akron for a doubleheader. The Zips enter the game with an overall 16-16 record and are sixth in the MAC's East Division with a 2-7 record. The Zips lead the all-time series over the Cardinals, 16-12, which began in 1991.

Akron's Kelly Quigley leads the team and ranks second in the league with a .375 batting average. For the season, she has 39 hits, 33 RBI and 24 runs scored. Tina McCauley leads the Zip's pitching staff with a 1.98 ERA, nine wins and 139 strikeouts.

Ball State's Kris Burdine leads the Cardinals with a .309 batting average, good for 15th in the MAC. In MAC games only, she's hitting .368, fourteenth best in the league. Jodi Willis and Britni Clark are tied for first in MAC games only with a .529 batting average and .556 on-base percentage.

Quincy Duran leads the pitching unit with a 2.33 ERA, and is second in number of wins with two. Randi Freese has four wins, tops on the team. Rachel Cleaveland leads pitchers with two saves.
